Joseph "Zigaboo" Modeliste, often referred to as the king of the funky drums, is one of the premier percussionists in modern history. He is responsible for the art form known as "Second Line Funk Drumming" and his music is beyond compare.

Born and raised in New Orleans, Zigaboo has recorded with a multitude of artists including The Meters, Professor Longhair, Dr. John, Allen Toussaint, Robert Palmer, and Lee Dorsey, to name only a few. Zigaboo has toured all over the world with various artists, including Keith Richards and the New Barbarians, and, with the Meters, as the opening act for the 1975 Rolling Stones World Tour. Along with Art Neville, Leo Nocentelli and George Porter Jr., the Meters defined the standard for all funks bands, even to this day. Zigaboo currently lives in Oakland, California, where he does clinics, teaches and plays all over the Bay Area with his band, "Zigaboo Modeliste and The Aahkesstra."
